TAROBA is Sekolah Tuanku Abdul Rahman Old Boys Association. The alumni for my alma matter. This logo was drafted for the Old Boys' Weekend ("OBW") to be held on 14 Sep - 16 Sep 2012 in Ipoh. The elements embedded in this logo are:

1. The shape of a shield with a banner 45 degrees across is the design of the school badge. It is very much associated with the school to the extent that the absence of the words STAR or STAROBA would not matter. When you see it, you'll know it's for STAR or STAROBA. Just like McDonald's Golden Arches.

2. The number 55, with the first 5 written backwards for aesthetic purpose, signify 55th anniversary for the school in 2012 since it was erected in 1957, the same year Malaya got its independence.

3. The green colour symbolises "Emerald" since 55 anniversary is also known as the Emerald Jubilee.

4. Why the dragon head? Well, it so happened that the year 2012 is the Dragon year for the Chinese.

5. Of course, I had to label it "2012 OBW" to mark the event the logo is meant to be representing. We may use it for car sticker, print in on mugs, t-shirts, souvenir books, etc

This is still a draft logo. The STAROBA OBW 2012 committee will meet 10 Feb 2012 to decide whether or not this logo will be adopted. If they disagree, then I'll design another one.

The below shows the progression of how the logo was developed. You will notice that it started off in purple-green. This is because when I Googled the word "55th Jubilee", I got the gem Alexandrite which is a semi-precious stone that has multi-colour scheme of Purple-Green. Later I found out that thhat website was for Stones Jubilee. A fellow STARian Batch 88-92 pointed out to me that I should have looked for "Meaning of Years of Anniversary" which lists Silver and Golden as the Jubilees for 25 years anf 50 years. That list shows 55th Anniversary as Emerald Jubilee. Naturally, the colour scheme of the logo change to show green as the dominant colour. Coincidentally, I was in Green House when I was in STAR.
