Life ain't perfect

I was in a horrible gun fight

Bullets flying around

One hit me in the chest

Crimson blood splashed

I fell onto the concrete floor

Crying in pain and agony

Flashing images of my sons

They smiled yet they cried

As they, whoever they are, 

.... rushed me to the hospital

I grasped tightly a key in my hand

That shall unlock my apartment door

Giving way to my assets

To be divided among the family

A few guitars and art pieces

Half dozen pairs of Converse

A stack of unread books 

And a Rolex from my father 

I closed my eyes wide shut 

In the darkness I saw light 

Calling me to cross over 

And when I did, 

I immediately woke up 

Gasping the thin air violently 

With dripping sweat, 

.... and the heart pounding 

I looked at the watch by my bed side 

It says 6:00 a.m. 

Much to my relief 

The Azan filled the air 

Calling for prayers

Buat peringatan jiwa

Lebah pasti sudah merasa, 

Nikmat alam dan kehidupan

Apabila mentari hilang dari linkungan pancaindera dikala malaikat maut berterbangan, kita biarkan Sang Luncai Durjana terjun dengan labu-labu busuknya, maka malaikat maut tidak terlena dengan bunyi-bunyian jahil manusia yang bersandarkan kemungkinan bahawa kebenaran firasat adalah fatamorgana hidup yang menjadi realiti akhir zaman.

Untuk layanan memori dan nostalgia arwah Ian Zuhayr Bin Johan (10 Jun 2011 - 25 April 2022), yang menerima jemputan pulang dari yang Maha Esa semasa di Hospital Selayang melalui instrumenNya iaitu Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome for Children (MIS-C), satu komplikasi pasca-Covid19. Arwah Ian kini bersemadi di D8859 di Tanah Perkuburan Islam Seksyen 21, Shah Alam. 

Innalillahi Wainnailaihi Rojiun

Dedicated to my late son, arwah Ian Zuhayr Bin Johan (10 June 2011 - 25 April 2022), who has accepted his return to Al-Mighty at Hospital Selayang via Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome for Children (MIS-C), a post-Covid19 complication. He now rests at D8859 at the Islamic Burial Ground in Section 21, Shah Alam. 

The photo is the last taken while Ian was still awake before being put under an induced coma on 24 April 2022 for his heart blood dialysis treatment.

March: He had Covid. Only feverish for two days. No cough. Recovered within a week with negative covid test. He was registered for vaccination but since covid hit, that had to be postponed. 

April 19th: He had fever with erratic temperature for three days until April 21st but covid negative. In addition, he started purging and having stomach pain. 

Apr 22nd: He was checked at Avisena Medical Centre as three days fever is normally dengue. Avisena declared him with dengue after blood tests, etc, as all the symptoms were pointing towards Dengue. Avisena commenced dengue treatment that includes dripping. He was also thirsty all the time, hence consumed a lot of water. 

Apr 23rd: he started to have breathing problems and Avisena did x-ray. Lungs showing worrying signs and suspected to have Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome-Children (MIS-C), a new post covid disease started in Malaysia in 2021. 

Apr 24th: Early morning after Avisena consulted Selayang Hospital (the only hospital that treats MIS-C), he was rushed in an ambulance to Selayang Hospital. Selayang Hospital declared him MIS-C and by that time his lungs were drowned with liquid presumable from drinking water and earlier dripping. His heart weakened and caused cascading effect such as high heart rate (as high as 200), erratic blood pressure and oxygen fell to as low as 83%. These caused the lungs to not function well, hence the water retention and bleeding internally in the lungs. Lung capacity further constrained by the inflamed intestines. A drastic action had to be taken. He was induced into coma so that MIS-C critical procedures had to be taken skipping normal medicine dosage. The procedures are: 

i. Blood dialysis. Tube inserted into heart via neck to suck out blood into dialysis machine to clean away bad antibody that had attacked the body since it (antibody) has no more covid virus to fight. 

ii. Since he did not respond well to dialysis given that the various organs had already reached severe stage, they wanted to start a 2nd procedure that is plasma exchange where incumbent plasma is replaced with donated plasma. However, his vitals had already reached a stage where it would harm him more if done. So they continued with dialysis. 

iii. The acid level in the body had also arisen. Various methods used to neutralise the pH reading in the body. 

Apr 25th: By 12 noon, his vital readings started to deteriorate. The doctors (six including radiologist) did everything they could think of based on their experience from 80 total MIS-C cases in Malaysia with 7 fatalities. By 1.11pm, Ian Zuhayr Johan became the 8th death in Malaysia.

Apr 26th: He was washed and buried the Islamic way at Islamic Burial Ground in Section 21 Shah Alam. His grave serial number is D8859.

In Islam, children that have not come to age are called Anak Syurga if he or she dies. That name carries the meaning Children of the Heaven as his or her deeds book in the eyes of God Almighty and his Angels are still Nil. May Ian Zuhayr Johan rest in peace. Innallahiwainnailaihirojiun.
