I puke when I see people buying art work at hundreds of thousands of Ringgit at art auctions simply because they are collecting works of yesteryears. Let the institutions such as banks, universities, councils or even the Balai Seni Visual Negara (formerly Balai Seni Lukis Negara) collect those. No need to rush into retrospective movement. You have already missed the train. The values of Ibrahim Hussein's or Latif Mohidin's or Yusof Ghani's have gone up through the roof. No joke, you might as well buy a house.

 

Instead, it is probably more economical to buy something like this (See image) by a young emerging contemporary Malaysian artist, Haslin Ismail. The capital gains would probably be better and your cash stuck in art inventory would be less taxing.
