MALAYSIAN CONTEMPORARY ARTS SHOWCASED AT WORLD ISLAMIC ECONOMIC FORUM (WIEF)
Malaysian contemporary artists such as Daud Rahim, Husin Hourmain, Md Fadli Yusof, M. Noor Mahmud and Suhaimi Fadzil were fortunately given the chance to have their art work viewed by dignified people such as HM Prince of Wales, HM Sultan of Brunei, HM King of Jordan as well as the Presidents/Prime Ministers/Head of States of the United Kingdom, Malaysia, Indonesia, Kosovo, Bahrain, Pakistan, Bosnia and Herzegovenia
RT plays an important role in introducing a particular society to the eyes of the world. It also carries with it messages that a nation believes in. It (art) is a language in itself that travels beyond boundaries of nations and ethnic constraints... like music. For Malaysia, we have been focusing quite intensely on the nation building surrounding sovereignity of the nation and economic strength. This is natural and logical of course. Any newly born country like us (Malaysia with only 56 years of existence) ought to have that priority. However, when we approach 2020, the much anticipated year of Malaysia becoming a 'developed' country rather than 'developing', we have to start thinking about growing our identity in the eyes of the global theatre. Who are we? Where we come from? So we tell them. We are Malaysian. Mighty, mighty Malaysian. How do we do this? Art is the best option. Kudos to the team at World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF) held in October/November this year in London for showcasing Malaysian contemporary art with the strong support by the Malaysian government via its investment company, MyCreative Ventures, as well as art enthusiast, the Artcube Gallery of Intermark. MUHAMMAD
Oil on Canvas
If Muslims know that history, they will straight away relate to the Year of Elephant when Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was born. That year a king by the name of Abrahah sent an army with elephants to crush the holy place of worshipping of the Arabs, the Kaabah. God sent a group of Ababil, a type of bird, to drop fired stones onto those elephants to stop this madness. Approximately 50 days subsequent to that event, Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was born. This was retold in a Quranic verse Al-Fil (The Elephant) which is the Arabic script written on the Kaabah in my art work.
As you can see, my work here tries to re-tell the history. The spider for example. It reminds us all to Hijrah, the migration of Muslims from Makkah to Madinah. The Prophet was hunted by assassins during the migration. He has to hide in a cave. God had protected him by having spiders to cover the mouth of the cave with its webs. The assassins did not even bother checking the cave as those webs were too elaborate to suggest that someone is hiding inside the cave. Finally the moon. When accused of being a false prophet, the Arabs demanded him to show powers that was demonstrated by prophets before him. I guess they must have imagined Moses splitting the Red Sea as documented in the Bible. Instead, Prophet Muhammad split the moon.

ASMA'UL HUSNA (SAKURA) / 99 NAMES OF GOD (CHERRY BLOSSOM)
Previously, without the Arabic scripts of the 99 names of Allah, these 3 panels were known as The Trio) that was created on 12 February 2006 in Chiswick, London (As per the image on the left). About 7 years later, on 6 July 2013, in Shah Alam, I added the 99 names of Allah in white with dashes of pink to mimick cherry blossoms randomly and sporadically floating in the air but some still accumulated at the branches of the tree waiting to be blown away by the wind. This is a metaphoric expression of the Mighty God being every where surrounding us (floating cherry blossoms in the air) but yet His greatness resides in His creations deep in the souls of living things (the branches with accumulated cherry blossoms). Nevertheless, if not appreciated, He will disappear from our hearts (blown away by the wind). With the creation of this work, the earlier work, The Trio, has now become void.www.buanaseni.blogspot.com
